The five numbers most tools skip

Why these numbers, and not the usual ones

A net-worth total feels good but tells you nothing about freedom. These five do.

  • Freedom Ratio The share of your essential life that is already funded — permanently — by money working for you. At 100% you never have to work for survival again. This is the number that actually measures freedom.
  • Real hourly wage Your take-home minus the real cost of earning it (work expenses), divided by the real hours it consumes (including commute and prep). It is almost always lower than people assume — and it reprices every purchase.
  • Runway How many months you can cover essentials with zero income. This is the number that decides whether you can say “no” — to a bad client, a bad job, a bad deal.
  • Coast-Freedom age The age at which your current investments, left untouched, grow into your freedom number on their own. After that point, you could stop adding money and still arrive on time.
  • Lifestyle leak What a slice of today’s wants would become in ten years if redirected. Not to guilt you — to price the trade-off honestly.
